Following the deadly fire in London in June 2017, cities around the world are asking questions about fire safety standards and, in places as remote as Melbourne in the antipodes, finding them lacking.

So the question here is, what about Chiang Mai? Building systems may differ in not having to cope with the extremes of cold and heat elsewhere and hence lack the need for insulation to the same extent but are there weaknesses needing addressing?

Are buildings constructed according to standards in Chiang Mai to ensure they are suitable for habitation and subsequently modified with or without official consent?

Here are some questions. Have the authorities been asking them also, and if so, what answers are forthcoming?
