Eight trees, no more than 50 cm tall were planted beside Chiang Mai moat by Mr Nikhom of Chang Peuk Hotel in 2007 a.d.
Mr Nikom collected seeds from the giant tree at Wat Chedi Luang , Dipterocarpus alatus, for his project to promote the growing of trees from the old mother tree. He told us that he wanted to plant trees all around the six kilometre length of the moat. However the local government authorities only gave permission to plant a few trees at this spot.
