Late February and into March is the time when the northern skies change from beautiful blue to grimy grey as the countryside is set alight:
Most affected by the smog must be the local witches and friends of Harry Potter as visibility is reduced so who are the folk best equipped to deal with the problem? Our loyal public servants in the government ministries such as Natural Resources and Environment perhaps? Or perhaps the witches themselves as they pick up their hard brooms and beat out the fire?
While not self respecting witch would be without her broom surely at this time of year we should follow her example when driving in the countryside and insist all government vehicles do likewise. Furthermore when a roadside fire is encountered we should demand that government officers rather than driving past stop to lend hand. After all the motto “Safety First” should mean something.
Does anything really change? The people in the position to make change are so comfortable in their air-conditioned cars, homes and offices don’t really give a damn!
In Nan – East of Chiang Mai next to Laos the haze obscures mountain views and Sri Nan National Park has many fires with no sign of any action to supress them. — How long before this is the story in Chiang Mai ?
