Sorry but President Evo Morales ,as reported in the ‘Shameful’ report below, got his figures a little wrong if Sunday’s Bangkok Post is to be believed.

The United States—how much does the United States spend to export terrorism to Afghanistan, to export terrorism to Iraq, and to export military bases to South America? They don’t only spend millions, but billions and trillions. I hope our figures are not wrong. For example, Obama, he asked his Congress for $40 billion more than what has already been spent. The budget of the United States is $687 billion for defence. And for climate change, to save life, to save humanity, they only put up $10 billion. This is shameful. The budget for the Iraq war, according to the figures we have, is $2.6 trillion for the Iraq war, to go kill in Iraq. Trillions of dollars. But directed towards paying the climate debt, $10 billion. This is completely unfair. These are our deep observations of what’s going on. That’s why—for the war, while trillions are going to the wars, on the other hand, to save humanity and the planet, they only want to direct $10 billion.
The Bangkok Post of 20th December 2009 writes “Rich countries pledged US$ 30billion in for “fast-track” funds for 2010-2012 period (3 years) , including $11 billion from Japan, $10.6 billion from the European Union and $3.6 billion from the United States.”
Sorry Evo that amounts to only $1.2 billion per year from the USA, which is less than 0.2 % of their military budget.
Also in the Bangkok Post is a report on how the undeniably cruel military junta ruling Burma skimps on health funding for its people “3% of national expenditure on health, while the military… consumes 40%”. So Burmese health spending amounts to 7.5% of their military budget. So one might say that Burmese spending is 37 times as equitable as that of the USA.
(Burma has but national responsibilities and its military work to ensure that people of the country do not threaten the wealth share of the nation’s elite. The USA of course has global responsibiliuties to ensure its elite maintain their power.)
